Aleck Ncube is an Intellectual Property Educator at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), www.nust.ac.zw , based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. He’s involved in teaching academic staff, researchers as well as students about Intellectual Property. Aleck is in the process of setting up an Innovation Technology Entrepreneurship Centre (ITEC). He believes in the importance of IP in enhancing economic development as well as in enhancing Technology Transfer and Research.
In the year 2010, he was offered a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Fellowship and he undertook research on Technology Transfer in Academic Institutions at the International Technology Transfer Institute www.unh.edu/itti (ITTI), at the University of New Hampshire School of Law, United States of America. The Title of his research project at ITTI was: Sustainable Science Technology and Innovation Development in Zimbabwe: Building Human Capital and Institutional Capacity in Intellectual Property Management and Technology Transfer. The project entails the establishment of an Innovation Technology Entrepreneurship Center (ITEC) at NUST. This will be a center of excellence in IP Management and Technology Transfer in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
While in the US, he joined the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), a non-profit organization that promotes IP and Technology Management and Transfer in American Universities and other research institutions across the world. He’s a recipient of the 2011 Scholarship for Technology Transfer Professionals from Developing Economies. This scholarship enabled him to attend the AUTM Annual Meeting held in Las Vegas in March last year. Aleck says this was an important occasion as he got to meet and network with other professionals involved in IP and Technology Transfer activities from across the USA and other parts of the world. Aleck is currently a Research Fellow at the International Technology Transfer Institute at the New Hampshire School of Law.
